Diabetic Medications

The following drugs need to be stopped 3 days before the day of the operation.

  • Dapagliflozin - (Brands) Forxiga, Qtern, Xigduo
  • Empagliflozin - (Brands) Jardiance, Jardiamet, Glyxambi
  • Ertugliflozin - (Brands) Steglatro, Steglujian, Segluromet

All other diabetic meds except insulin need to be stopped on the day of operation only. If you are on insulin, please provide details here for advice.

Blood thinners

The surgeon's rooms will be able to provide instructions regarding if and when they require you to stop any blood thinning medications. Please confirm with your cardiologist, neurologist or GP that it is safe for you to stop these medications before you do so.

Others

Most medications can be continued throughout the surgical period. Any medications due on the morning of surgery eg blood-pressure tablets can be taken with a sip of water.
